CHIEF CONSTABLE KEVIN SMITH RESPONDS TO THE PUBLICATION OF THE POLICE AND FIRE REFORM (SCOTLAND) BILL

We are committed to delivering the best possible policing service for our communities across Scotland.

Today marks a significant milestone in the development of the Police Service of Scotland with the draft legislation that will provide the framework for establishing the new service, presented to Parliament.

The police service will play its part in the Parliamentary process which will now follow over the coming months.

Moving to a unified service is the most significant change to the Scottish Policing Service in its history and work is now well underway to plan and implement the new structures which will take policing in Scotland forward.

The strong link between policing and local communities is the cornerstone of what we do and we will work to ensure that remains the case as we move to become a single service.

I am confident that we will create the best possible policing service which will continue to deliver world-class policing both locally and nationally.
