ACPOS FESTIVE DRINK- DRUG DRIVING CAMPAIGN 2008

Monday 8 December 2008 – Monday 5 January 2009

This years ACPOS festive road safety campaign was launched at the Scottish Parliament on Monday 8 December and was attended by Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill, Central Scotland Chief Constable Kevin Smith, Head of ACPOS Road Policing, and Michael McDonnell, Director of Road Safety Scotland.

The four week campaign, which will be supported by all eight Scottish police forces, is aimed at highlighting the risks and consequences associated with drink or drugs driving.

During last years campaign Scottish police forces arrested 839 motorists who were prepared to take the risk and who in many cases will still  be disqualified as the minimum penalty for the offence is a one year driving ban. This is only one of the consequences of being caught. On many occasions a person will also lose their job and in the current economic climate it will become increasingly difficult to seek re-employment.

Along with high visibility patrols and intelligence led operations Scottish forces will be paying particular attention to those drivers who take to the roads

ACPOS Festive Drink Drive Campaign 2008

For many years drink driving has been socially unacceptable and this year we will again be urging people to consider their own moral responsibility and report drivers who they suspect of driving whilst over the limit.
