ACPOS Annual Conference 2010

3 - 4 June 2010
Westerwood Hotel,
Cumbernauld, nr Glasgow

The Annual ACPOS Conference will take place at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 June 2010.

The Conference attracts Chief Constables, Deputy Chief Constables and Assistant Chief Constables as well as senior support staff from the eight Scottish forces. Representatives from Scottish Government and a wide range of our partner agencies also attend our event.

This year's Conference will focus on 'The Scottish Policing Manifesto', which seeks to articulate the ACPOS Business Area priorities for the coming year, linking these to the extremely challenging financial times anticipated by all public services. We are also keen to show both excellence in, and the complexity of, policing, the strong partnerships necessary to deliver on our outcomes and the contribution that policing makes to the outcomes of others.

The conference will also focus on the Scottish Strategic Assessment very high priorities, and the partnership working which forces and the SCDEA undertake to drive these forward, to highlight the diversity of action across Scotland to address these major issues.

Patrick Shearer

The President of ACPOS,
Chief Constable Patrick Shearer, of Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, will open the conference.

He said: “I look forward  to welcoming colleagues and stakeholders to this year’s Conference at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld.

We are looking to promote the Scottish Policing Manifesto for next year in what will be a challenging financial environment, but one where we will meet these challenges head on to ensure the continued provision of a quality policing service to Scotland's communities.

I am confident the Conference will be of great value to our members and attending stakeholders, help inform the wider policing debate, and assist in delivering on our priorities for the forthcomng year and our commitment to tackle and driving down crime, in all its guises.'

IBM is delighted to be sponsoring the ACPOS Conference again this year. This year we have teamed up with Barrachd, Scotland's leading providers of Analytics Solutions. Our objectives remain the same - to be the trusted partner for the Scottish Police Service. Using IBM Scotland's local presence and our company's global law enforcement experience, we aim to provide a range of solutions to complex problems which enable you to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of the services you deliver in our communities.

During the conference you will hear about some of these solutions and how other police forces in the UK and around the world are taking advantage of them. We recognise the key challenge for policing in Scotland remains, doing more with less. The increase in demand for visible policing activities, combined with a continually evolving set of business requirements, means that policing needs to become constantly smarter. Many police services here in the UK and abroad are investing in technology to integrate processes, information and people. IBM and Barrachd's capabilities and solutions in innovative technology; proven delivery approaches; and insights on modern joined up criminal justice systems is transforming many police services from 'sense and respond' to 'predict and act' - while dramatically reducing costs and improving front-line services.
